Fall Pillows

First off, don't pay any attention to the date on these pics. My camera has been throwing tantrums lately and when I changed the batteries, I didn't set the date. Technology, while I am grateful for it, sometimes it's a love/hate relationship. If your like me, it's just frustrating when it doesn't work the way I think it ought to.
I had a lot of fun making these FALL PILLOWS! My awesome friend Tricia is always doing something creative and sharing the ideas with me. The crafts are always so adorable that I just have to make them. She is so helpful that she'll spend the day creating with me. She found this idea on the creative blog Cluck, Cluck Sew!

This ruffled one was a fun accent pillow to compliment the others.
I didn't take a picture of the backs of these, yet, if you check out the Cluck, Cluck Sew blog, you will see that she & we made the pillows like slipcovers, where they overlap each other in the back. This way we can change the pillows by Seasons or just a whim!! It's a girl thing & I ♥ it!!


Now, if you look closely, you will see that the first fall tree and this one are slightly different. I have a few couches and therefore needed a few pillows. After making these, I feel that I need more.. It's becoming an addiction.. kinda;)! The great thing is, most of us have a bit of scrap collection, of material, that we can use up.


I can see Christmas pillows, Winter pillows, Valentine pillows, Spring pillows, Summer pillows..... the list goes on!!
When I first put my new pillows out, I said to everyone that entered my home, "Did you see my cool pillows?". I had my kids & their friends looking at me like I was a bit of my rocker! Haha!

Crayon Wraps!

I made some of these for my little girls a while back, and since then, I have made a few for gifts.
Here is a 'Tutorial of a CRAYON WRAP', if you decide to make one yourself.

First, measure and cut your choices of fabric & ribbon -
1 @ 21 inches X 10 1/2 inches
1 @ 21 inches X 6 inches
1 24 inch ribbon

The fabric used here, I purchased from Wal-Mart and from the selection - 'Quick Cuts'.



Here is the tricky part (I hope not too confusing)!

Fold each piece in half, Iron flat.
Then, Lay the shorter piece on top of the taller piece
(where they will be when it is completed).

Flip the back taller half over the front piece
with the ribbon, folded in half, with the ribbon fold end centered and laying on top of the shorter piece, lengthwise.

Pin in place, starting where the ribbon is placed.

Now, Stitch around the edge (wrong-side facing out).
Making sure not to sew the ribbon ends in anywhere else.
(it wouldn't hurt to pin the ribbon ends around the middle, inside of the wrap)

Leave about a 1 1/2 inch gap on the side above where the ribbon is sewn in.

Now, turn the wrap right-side out!
Isn't that CUTE?! Just a few more steps to go :)



Tuck in the spot where you turned it right-side out & iron.

Lie a ruler on top of the flatened wrap & mark on the shorter piece at 1 inch spaces (so you know where to sew the lines up to divide the crayons).

Now, Sew around the outer edge, about 3/8 inch seam, starting below (& back-stitching the ribbon part, to re-inforce) where the ribbon starts.



When you get to where you started, start sewing up the the lines (where you marked at 1 in. for the crayon dividers). Always back-stitch at the top of each seam to re-inforce.
I do a zig-zag pattern while sewing this section, after back-stiching the top part, I loosen my thread and skip over to the next line, and on the bottom, I just stitch over to the next line up.



When you get done stitching the crayon divider section, clip all the stray threads (don't forget the ones between the tops of the dividers where you skipped!).



Woo-Hoo, CRAYON WRAP Complete!!! :)

To Market, To Market...

Well, yesterday was a busy one! For our little Scottie, that is in pre-school (one that a group of us mothers' take turns teaching) needed a 'Shop' for the 'Market' they had at school today!!! So yesterday we turned an ordinary cardboard box into "Scottland's Flower Market" Shop! We had alot of fun making it and the 'Flowers'(Tootsie-Pops, suckers w/flower shapes), 'Soil'(Oreo cookies-just crush) and Worms(Gummy Worms)! Now in all reality, the little kids helped mostly by occuping themselves while I taped, painted and put the treats together! Just a bit of funny info --- When anyone comments on a good meal or job done on something, my hubby always, jokingly says 'Thank You, I worked really hard on that!!', (he says that since we are married, It's as if he did it too!). He has a good sense of humor! I like his thinking, because of all the things that I can accomplish in a day, being a full-time mom and provide for the family too!!!!!

Bow-Making!

Here is just a few samples of the BOWS that I enjoy making!! The Rose is made with sheer wired Ribbon and attatched to an alligator clip! This one just so happens to be a favorite of our little Scottie! The other two are made with grosgrain ribbon! I will put a few of the others up soon as well!! My girls inform me often of particular colors and styles we need to try out!! There goes that 'WE' thing again!
